Frequently Asked Questions

What is an Online Business Consultant?

An Online Business Consultant is someone who can help you grow your business online. Whether it’s helping you with the foundations of your business such as systems and processes, or helping with tech such as websites, email marketing, sales funnels, and online courses. I can help you streamline your digital processes and adopt new technology to help you meet your business goals, save time and money.

What can you do to assist me?

It’s my mission to help you reach your business development goals. I work intuitively with small business owners and SMEs to provide the most efficient solutions that will allow your business to grow and your life to become easier.  You can find more details on the how I can help page.

How do you ensure that my brand is represented at all times through your work?

I understand that your brand and business voice is important. That’s why I work hard to understand your business. From our initial conversation which is usually via video call (coffee and cake optional!) I aim to develop a strong rapport with you so that you feel safe with your business in my hands. I outsource myself so I know you’re taking a leap of faith but it’s my aim to make it as easy and comfortable as possible, wherever you might be in the world!

I’ll take the time to fully understand your needs and requirements and I won’t begin my work for you until everything has been finalised and you’re completely happy with my proposal.

I may get some things wrong, none of us are perfect after all. But over time, the more we work together and I get to understand you and your business in more detail, I’ll understand your brand message and ensure that your online business presence portrays this.

How do I know if hiring an Online Business Consultant will work for me?

You don’t, but you won’t know unless you try!

Both of us need to be happy working together with a strong working relationship to get things right. Not every consultant is going to be the right fit for every business. That’s why I offer all new clients a free, initial consultation, so we can get to know each other and I can identify where I can help you or if someone else might be a better fit for you.

Why should I hire an Online Business Consultant instead of a Business Coach?

You need to know what you want to achieve to be able to answer that question.

My approach is one I have developed over time, and it combines business advice and guidance with practical support to set up the systems and processes you need to have in place.

If you know that you’re struggling with the foundations for your business, your online presence or are struggling to use technology for your business or are unsure how to use it, then I’ll definitely be able to help.

If you’re wanting someone to help you with your personal growth and mindset you are most likely going to want to work with a Business Coach.

In many cases, you might need both of us. I often work alongside other consultants and coaches where they’ve identified a need for a stronger online presence, or assistance in using technology to streamline your business processes.

I already have a team of staff but need someone with specific skills for a project I have. Can I still hire you?

Of course you can! You probably have a great workforce, but if they’re lacking in a particular skill set that you require for a short time, it makes perfect sense to hire an expert for the job.

I can bring fresh eyes to what you need help with as I’m not working in your business day in and day out like you and your employees. I act like a critical friend who can shed light on situations you’ve been puzzling over and I can draw on my knowledge and skills from my work with other clients to present you with new solutions to old problems. This enables you to work more efficiently, and effectively.

Where will you work?

I mostly work from my home office but I’m happy to discuss working with you in person, if that is what you need. As long as you can provide me with a desk and a reliable internet connection, I’m able to work from almost anywhere (I’ve even worked from a beach before!)

How will you keep me informed of work progress?

I like to treat each client individually rather than having a standardised way of doing this. During our initial consultation I will agree with you milestones and targets for completed work – this will vary according to what you hire me for. As a minimum, all clients will receive a monthly phone consultation with me to discuss details of the work completed and review upcoming priorities.

What software do you use?

On a day to day basis, I work with Microsoft Office Suite, GSuite, Mailchimp, Mailerlite, Active Campaign, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Infusionsoft, Canva, WordPress, Squarespace, Wix, Teachable, Simplero, Kajabi and other bespoke software for my clients. I also back up our work and share files with you using Dropbox, OneDrive and GoogleDrive.

I know I need help, but I have no idea where to start?

This is more common than you think. A lot of entrepreneurs start out on their own and get to a point where their business has grown, and they are totally overwhelmed by the amount of work they have to do.

If you’re here then it’s highly likely that you’ve identified a gap I can fill in terms of online business support, business development and growth. Or you need support with your online presence, or using technology to improve your work processes and systems.

Whatever you need help with, I’ll help you identify what it is during our initial consultation.

Will you be doing all of the work yourself?

No, in some cases it’s better for me and you to pass on the work to a member of my team who has the particular skillset necessary for the work. I’ll always let you know when this is the case and ensure you’re introduced properly to who you’ll be working with.

Is there a minimum number of hours that I need to commit to?

It depends how you work with me. For ad hoc work like fixing a WordPress issue I charge a minimum of 1 hour but for retainer hours and regular clients I charge in 15 minute increments. I also work on a daily basis for some of my consultancy projects.

It’s up to you how you choose to work with me such as securing me for a set number of days a month,  buying a block of hours and using them when needed, signing up to a monthly retainer for consistent support or simply approaching me when you need help for ad hoc support. The choice is completely yours and I’m very happy to talk to you about your specific business requirements

Do you have set working hours?

I work on a flexible basis in order to meet the needs of my clients, however I do have ‘core office hours’ during term time 9.30am to 2.30pm Monday to Thursday. If there are any changes you need to know about, like upcoming holidays, you’ll receive two months notice and reminders on your monthly invoice.

What happens if you are sick or on holiday?

This is an understandable concern for someone outsourcing to a freelancer. I am lucky to have my associates and some Virtual Assistant’s that I work with to provide cover, and if you sign up to regular support I will discuss this with you and introduce you to the most appropriate person for your needs.

Everyone gets sick from time and time, and I’ll always let you know if your work will be affected. The benefit of working with a freelancer is that if we are sick, we will usually work additional hours once we are better to ensure that your deadlines are still met.

Of course, freelancers need to take a break as well! I usually take 3-5 weeks annual leave a year, and will always give you at least two months’ notice of holidays and arrange cover, if required.

My work is confidential, will you sign a confidentiality agreement?

All information and data that is handled for my clients is treated in the strictest of confidence and used only for the purposes of fulfilling our commitments to you. I have a full understanding of GDPR and am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office as a data controller. Click here to view my registration certificate.

Our standard client agreement includes a confidentiality clause as well as a data processing agreement, however, we are also happy to review  any additional confidentiality agreements that you may require.

How much does hiring an Online Business Consultant cost?

You can choose to work with me in a variety of ways, each with a different pricing option. Check out the “how I can help” page for details of my charges and the many different ways you can choose to work with me.
